BleepingComputer initiated an intriguing experiment focused on generating an entirely “white AI image.” Motivated by their endeavor, we decided to embark on this challenge too.
Despite experimenting with various prompts listed below, they encountered difficulties in attaining their goal.
- “An image that is nothing but the color white”
- “An image of nothing but white white white white”
- “Completely white without any additional features”
- “A blank white space”
- “An image of pure #FFFFFF pixels”
- “A white wall”
Our curiosity was piqued by this challenge, prompting us to explore the limits of AI’s capability in creating visual representations that adhere strictly to a singular color palette, specifically aiming for a flawless white output.

Can you create a white AI image with Midjourney?
The task of generating a purely white image may seem simple at first glance but it’s not. We tried several prompts as you can see below:
- 100x zoom in a plain white paper, –no colors –v 6.0
- white, –no colors –v 6.0 –s 50
- flat white colored page with no borders –v 6.0
None of them worked. When we submitted a request to Midjourney for an image featuring a flat white background, the result was unexpectedly amusing. Rather than generating a simple, plain white background, Midjourney produced an image depicting a cup of coffee.
Why can’t Midjourney generate white AI images?
Humans interpret “white” as a void of color, a concept of simplicity. Conversely, an AI image generator deciphers images through the lens of data. For such technology, a white image might be imbued with complex interpretations, as it draws on real-world observations where absolute whiteness is a rarity.
Consequently, soliciting a purely white image from an AI turns out to be more challenging than attempting to understand the meaning of life through artificial intelligence. This contrast shows the intricate ways in which AI processes and comprehends visual data, highlighting the complexity of tasks that seem straightforward to human observers.
