Steam Game Recording is an in-app solution for streamers
Steam Game Recording is a new feature from Steam that helps gamers easily capture, save, and share their gameplay moments, including Steam Deck. Here is what it can do:
Today we’ve launched Steam Game Recording into Beta. This is a new built-in system for creating and sharing your gameplay footage, that works on any game on Steam.

Steam Game Recording offers two main recording options. Background Recording automatically starts when you begin playing, ensuring you never miss a moment. It saves footage to your chosen drive and overwrites the oldest recordings when space is needed. On-Demand Recording lets you manually start and stop recording with a hotkey, giving you full control over what gets captured, ideal for recording specific parts of your gameplay.
Steam Game Recording features a Steam Timeline that helps you navigate through your gameplay while recording. It automatically marks significant events like achievements and screenshots. You can add Player-Added Markers for key moments you want to revisit. For supported games, developers can use Game-Added Markers to notify Steam of important events, which are then marked on the timeline.
The Replay feature lets you jump back in time to review past gameplay moments directly from the Steam Overlay. This is useful for analyzing what went wrong during a tough part of the game or recalling something an NPC said. Clipping tools let you find and save only the important parts of your recordings. You can easily edit and trim your footage, making keeping just the best moments simple.
Sharing your gameplay highlights is easy with Steam. You can use the new Save/Share menu to send your videos anywhere during or after play.
It’s good to know that Steam Game Recording works with any game that supports the Steam Overlay, even non-Steam titles. You can also choose what gets recorded, ensuring only your gameplay is captured and not your desktop. Steam allows you to limit how much hard drive space the recordings can use, ensuring your storage doesn’t get overwhelmed.
How to use Steam Game Recording feature?
To start using Steam Game Recording, join the beta by going to Settings > Interface > Beta Participation and selecting a Beta option. Then, go to Settings > Game Recording and choose between Background or On-Demand recording modes.
Also, you can join the Game Recording Beta Steam Group to share your experiences and report any issues.
Steam Game Recording is a powerful and user-friendly tool for capturing, editing, and sharing gaming experiences. Now, here is the next Steam annoucement trending.
First look at the Hori Steam controller
The Hori Wireless Horipad for Steam is a newly announced PC gaming controller officially licensed by Valve. Scheduled for release in Japan on October 31st, it comes in four colors and offers both Bluetooth wireless and USB-C wired connectivity.
The controller features gyroscopic sensors for motion control, customizable button mappings via Hori’s software, and a layout reminiscent of the Steam Deck’s menu buttons. However, it lacks rumble feedback, a full set of four back buttons, and the trackpads of the original Steam Controller.
Priced at approximately 7,890 yen (about $50), its launch signals Valve’s effort to expand Steam-compatible hardware options, potentially paving the way for more licensed controllers in the future.
