What is Skybox AI: Blockade Labs’ 3D scene maker
Skybox AI is a 3D AI tool from Blockade Labs that lets you use artificial intelligence to make 360° backgrounds. With Skybox AI, you can just type in a description of the scene you want to make, and Skybox AI will make a photorealistic 360° image for you.
Skyboxes are often used to make it look like there is a lot of space outside without having to model the geometry of mountains, clouds, or landscapes in the distance. They can also be used to make things like day and night cycles, weather, and horizons in the distance. Skyboxes are usually made with high-resolution images or procedural textures to give the 3D scene a background that looks good and feels real. This improves the overall visual quality and realism of the virtual world.
Skybox AI is run by a custom version of Stable Diffusion, which is a state-of-the-art deep learning model for making images. Stable Diffusion is trained on a huge set of images, which helps it figure out how scenes in the real world are made up statistically. This means that Skybox AI can make images that look both real and good to look at.
Here are some of the use cases for Skybox AI:
- Create immersive virtual experiences
- Create custom backgrounds for VR games and training applications
- Create marketing materials
- Create educational content
- Create art and design projects
Skybox AI is a powerful tool that can be used to make 360° backgrounds that look real and are pleasing to the eye. It is a great tool for anyone who wants to make virtual experiences that feel like they are real and has two modes to use right now:
- Sketch mode
- Remix mode
Let’s take a closer look at what the modes offer.

Skybox AI Sketch mode
With Sketch mode, Blockade Labs adds a new set of tools and guides that give you more control over how your skyboxes are made.
When the sketch tool is active, you can click and drag your view without leaving a mark if you hold down the “spacebar” as you do so.
Want to see a castle far away? Sketch it out, say “castle” in your prompt, and press “generate” to see how your drawings change your skybox. If you don’t get what you want the first time, your sketch stays so you can try a different style or prompt, or you can switch to Remix mode to give that castle a new look!
Note: You can only use Sketch mode on desktop computers and bigger tablets. You won’t be able to see the sketch interface on your phone.
Skybox AI Remix mode
With Skybox AI Remix mode, you can change the style of any skybox. Your remix prompt will change how the active skybox looks and feels, but its structure and depth will stay the same.
You can use this simple interface to make panoramic images and skyboxes that will be useful in the near future for making art, games, VR experiences, and more.

Skybox AI tips & tricks
Here are some additional tips for using Skybox AI:
- Be as specific as possible when describing the scene you want to create: The more specific you are, the better Skybox AI will be able to generate a realistic image.
- Try to create landscapes and environments: Skybox AI is specifically tuned for landscapes and environments, as that’s the primary use for skyboxes. People and animals or specific objects may not come through often or as beautifully.
- Use keywords to help Skybox AI understand what you are looking for: For example, if you want to create a beach scene, you could use keywords like “sand,” “palm trees,” and “ocean.”
- Use remix mode: Remix mode is another great way to get the results you want. Try asking for something easier to make to get a nice world structure, then switch to Remix mode and ask for the exact style you want.
- Experiment with different styles: Skybox AI offers a variety of styles, such as; cyberpunk, manga, etc. So you can find the one that best suits your needs.
- Use negative prompts: If you want to keep certain words out of your skybox, use the new feature called “negative prompt” and exclude what you don’t want in your skybox.
- Have fun: Skybox AI is a great tool for creativity, so let your imagination run wild.
